Board

BARBARA DANSBY – CHAIRMAN

I am the mother of two wonderful children.  My son, Rob (32), lives in Hollywood California.  My daughter, Alli (14), wishes she lived with her brother in Hollywood.

I was born and raised in Columbus, and so were both of my children.  We attend Trinity Temple Assembly of God.

I taught kindergarten and third grade in the Muscogee County School District until Alli was three.  I have been officially homeschooling her for 10 years.  Besides homeschooling Alli, I teach a readers’ theatre class at Family Theatre.  I also do box-office for the theatre.

I joined the current L.I.G.H.T. board in the fall, after Angela Edwards moved and left a position open.  I have been the “Park Day” hostess for the past two years.  L.I.G.H.T. has been a “God send” for Alli and me.  We have made many wonderful friends over the years.  We participate in as many of the activities as possible.  L.I.G.H.T. has a lot to offer, and for children without siblings in the house, it is great for socialization.

CHRISTY HOLLIS – TREASURER

I have been married for  22 very happy years. I have one daughter, Gracie, and she is 12 years old. I have been homeschooling for 5 years. I love homeschooling Grace and being able to have time with her everyday that we would not have if she went to public school. I have enjoyed meeting new people through LIGHT that have the same Christian values and beliefs I have in raising and teaching our children.

LYNETTE TAYLOR

I was born and raised on the prairie in southern Minnesota. I have been married for twenty years to my husband, William, who is also from Minnesota. In 1999 our daughter Geneva was born. We moved to Columbus, GA when Geneva was three.

My decision to home school came natural to me. I believe there is learning in each and everything we experience here on this beautiful earth. Homeschooling allows us the flexibility to learn together as a family and fosters a “true” love for learning.

L.I.G.H.T has provided resources for us to participate and socialize with other homeschooled families. I would like to serve on the board of L.I.G.H.T. this year because L.I.G.H.T. and the past board members have given so much to our family and the homeschooling community.

LORI THORNTON

My husband, Ricky, and I have been married 18 years.

We have 2 children, Rebecca (14) and Eric (9).  I have enjoyed homeschooling for 8 years so that my children can have an education with personal encouragement and focused attention on the areas where they need individualized help.  I have often mentored others who were new to homeschooling and encouraged others who were considering homeschooling their children.

Our family is actively involved at Rose Hill Baptist Church where my husband serves on staff.  We are very involved in Family Theatre and manage the Friendship Cafe, where I have taught classes on baking bread and pastries with fresh-milled grains.  I will be honored to serve on the board this year to help encourage and make the homeschool experience positive for everyone.
